Carmen Avenue Apartments is a new construction of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments for families and individuals. In partnership with Allied Housing, AHA developed the 30-unit apartment complex on Carmen Avenue, a short walk from the city’s Civic Center complex. A substantial number of the building’s apartments are set aside for families that were formerly homeless and have special needs. Abode Services provides a full-time services coordinator as well as an on-site activity coordinator for children.

The three-story building is the first of its kind in the Tri-Valley area to incorporate both green design and universal design in affordable housing. It features solar panels, natural and recycled materials, energy-efficient heating, and drought tolerant landscaping. The building received the highest Green Point score for a multifamily building in the Bay Area since the rating program began. The building was also featured on Build it Green’s 2008 Green Home Tour.
