Our New Year's Resolution: Affordable Housing for All

We look forward to the work of creating new homes and greater impact in the new year, and as we reflect on our recent work at Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA), we are reminded of how thankful we are for supporters like you. In the past year, we've created 140 new affordable homes in the Bay Area, and have expanded opportunities for people most in need. We could not have done it without you. Some news:

Please mark your calendars to join us on Tuesday February 23 at 10am at 3132 MLK Jr. Way in Berkeley to celebrate the much-awaited groundbreaking of Harper Crossing, 42 new homes for low income seniors in the transit-rich Adeline corridor of Berkeley.

We are thrilled that the City of Sonoma and Sonoma County recently selected SAHA as the developer of 49 new rental units of affordable housing to be built on 1.9 acres of county land. SAHA was chosen over stiff completion to create home for low income families and veterans along the main commercial corridor in the historic city of Sonoma.

Recently, Lakeside Senior Apartments won AIA East Bay Design Award. The jury reviewed more than 70 projects, selecting 12 for exceptional design excellence. Designed by David Baker and Associates, the project was recognized for its quality of design, sustainable responsibility, innovation, thoughtfulness, and technique.

Thanks to a grant from the California Public Utilities Commission and a partnership with Computer Technology Network, we will be offering 4-week computer literacy courses to SAHA residents at four buildings. By leveraging this new funding source, we are able to provide new, and relevant services for our residents.

Later in February, SAHA will be honored with the distinction of being named one of Top 50 Developers in Bay Area by San Francisco Business Times. To view all of our housing in the East Bay and beyond, check out the new interactive map on our website.

We are so pleased to announce the election of two new members of SAHA's board of directors. Smitha Seshadri brings over 12 years of experience in affordable housing development, as Vice President of Real Estate of Habitat for Humanity and previously with Bridge Housing. Treva Reid brings expertise in government and public relations as a member of the East Bay Government Relations Team at PG&E and previously as the Senior Field Representative to Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner.
