Thornton Avenue Housing is the new construction of a five-story building located at 6347, 6361, and 6375 Thornton Avenue. The Project Site consists of three lots, approximately 0.54 acres total. Each lot is developed with a single-story building, parking area, and landscaping. The completed property will provide 59 units of large family affordable housing with the following types: 28 one-bedroom, 15 two-bedroom, 15 three-bedroom units, and one (1) three-bedroom manager’s unit. 13 of these units will be set aside for “Special Needs” households experiencing homelessness.

The site is within a primarily residential area of Newark surrounded by a combination of single-family and multi-family residences to the north, northeast, southwest, and west. Other nearby uses include a church to the northwest, a public park to the east, and an event center and commercial retail and services with surface parking to the east and southeast. Interstate 880 (I-880) is located approximately one mile north of the site. Two AC Transit bus stops are located approximately 350-450 feet from the Project Site near the intersections of Thornton Avenue and Cherry Street and Thornton Avenue and Arden Street. On site services include a music room, and community room with a kitchen and computer access. Thornton Avenue Housing includes an outdoors courtyard with a community garden and barbeque area. There is an elevator, bicycle storage, and a laundry room available with property management and resident service offices on site.
