Satellite Affordable Housing Associates and Abode Communities are collaborating with the Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) to create much-needed workforce housing on surplus land owned by the District. BUSD Workforce Housing will be a six-story, 110-unit, new construction housing development for families. The project site is owned by BUSD and was previously used as a surface parking lot.
BUSD employees, including teachers and non-teaching staff, will receive preference for the homes, which will serve households earning between 30% AMI and 120% AMI. A mix of one, two, and three-bedroom units will be offered, along with onsite amenities including a spacious landscaped courtyard with BBQ area, gardening beds, and children’s play areas; a fitness room, a community room, a lobby, management offices and secure bicycle storage. The project is well-located in northwest Berkeley close to shopping, public parks, bicycle lanes, and transit.
