Affordable and high-quality housing is a basic necessity that all individuals deserve. But there is more to living a fulfilling and enriching life than just having a roof over one’s head.

Lifelong learning, outlets for creative expression, and opportunities for social connections are crucial for a thriving community. Many of these recreational and educational services are provided by dedicated and thoughtful volunteers who graciously share their skills and knowledge with our residents. Volunteering is a great way to make new connections and strengthen our community. Along the way, our volunteers gain new skills, stay active in retirement, fulfill community service requirements for school, build lasting relationships, and make a real difference in the lives of our residents.

There are numerous ways our volunteers give and stay connected. Leading arts and crafts classes, hosting assembly games such as BINGO, teaching ESL classes, running group exercise classes, technology tutoring, and homework help are just some examples of how our volunteers get involved. We also regularly seek volunteers for one-time events for various celebrations throughout the year such as our annual Thanksgiving celebrations. Additionally, we work with various community clubs such as the Junior League of the East Bay, Bears for the Elder Welfare, and Cal Berkeley Habitat for Humanity. In the last year, our volunteers contributed nearly 9,000 hours.

In the essence of my abode, transcending its physical form, lies a sanctuary of hope and security. Grateful for the solace and refuge it grants, especially amid the struggles faced by many.
